YZF-R7 inspection checklist

It's the bike you think it is

• Look it up on your state register by its code, not its name YZF660
• NSW and QLD both file it under the code YZF660. NSW's row reads "YZF-R7 LAMS (YZF660), 2021-on, 655cc"; QLD lists only "YZF660", so searching QLD for "R7" finds nothing.
• The LAMS bike is 655cc; the full-power YZF-R7 HO is 689cc.
• Victoria lists it as "YZF660 (YZFR7LA)".
• It's on your state's LAMS list today (registers change) Look up a code · NSW · QLD · VIC

Every used bike

• Frame VIN and engine number match the registration papers
• PPSR check: no finance owing, not written off or stolen ppsr.gov.au ↗ (a few dollars, needs the VIN)
• Registration is current, and in the seller's name

Service history to ask for

• Service records every 10,000km / 12 monthsunverified
• Valve clearance check every 40,000km: ask when it was last doneunverified

  What to look for

  On sale in Australia only since 2022. The CP2 engine itself has a strong reliability record via the MT-07, but the R7's chassis, fairing mounts and different service items have not built up a comparable local fault history.

This is a checklist, not a diagnosis. Anything that fails, or that you can't check, is worth a mechanic's pre-purchase inspection. Amber “unverified” tags mean we couldn't confirm that figure against a manufacturer source.
