Known faults to check for

Check for: Neutral Sending Unit (NSU) screws backing out Shows up: Any · Repair: $20-100
What to look for
The two screws holding the plastic Neutral Sending Unit inside the crankcase behind the clutch basket are known to vibrate loose over time. If they fall out, they get caught in the primary gears or clutch, often destroying the engine.
Check for: Upper chain roller tearing out Shows up: Any
What to look for
The upper chain roller is bolted directly to a weak point on the frame. Under hard off-road use, the chain can slap it hard enough to rip the roller and its captive nut clean out of the frame tubing.
Check for: Countershaft seal leak Shows up: Any
What to look for
The countershaft (front sprocket) seal can blow out, dumping oil rapidly. Usually caused by a blocked crankcase breather or simply age.
