Every used bike

Frame VIN and engine number match the registration papers
PPSR check: no finance owing, not written off or stolen ppsr.gov.au ↗ (a few dollars, needs the VIN)
Registration is current, and in the seller's name

Service history to ask for

Service records every 8,000km / 12 months
Valve clearance check every 24,000km: ask when it was last doneunverified

Known faults to check for

Check for: Stator failure Shows up: 15,000km+ · Repair: $500-900
What to look for
The electrical charging system, specifically the stator, is known to burn out. Symptoms include the bike running out of battery and dying while riding.
Check for: Neutral switch failure Shows up: Any
What to look for
The switch that detects if the bike is in neutral frequently fails, meaning the neutral light on the dash won't illuminate even when the bike is out of gear.
Check for: Poor brake feel Shows up: Any
What to look for
Particularly on early (2015-2016) models, the front brake caliper and master cylinder provide wooden feedback and require a hard squeeze to stop a heavy bike.
